What Helps You Heal Faster After an Abortion?

Self-care is crucial for achieving proper physical health & mental well-being.

Population control enthusiasts are anxious to promote the myth that abortion is safe.  But in reality, physical complications are fairly common and the majority of women will experience at least one of many possible negative emotional reactions to abortion.

How to heal after the abortion

The term post-abortion stress includes any unresolved, negative feelings associated with a prior abortion.   Some negative feelings, such as feelings of loss or alienation, can be very strong but may not rise to the level of being a psychological illness.  Other negative reactions, such as suicidal thoughts, increased abuse of drugs or alcohol, or impacted grief may require professional mental health care.

Unfortunately, many therapists have no experience in dealing with post-abortion issues.  But there are lists of resources for help in post-abortion healing from people trained in helping with these unique problems, many of whom have had abortions themselves and can better understand and support those who need help.

What Are the Health Risks of Abortion?

From physical complications to emotional & mental health risks, abortion can impact a large number of problems for women across the globe leading to extremely dangerous outcomes.

As remarked on several occasions, unintended pregnancies among adolescent women often lead to abortions which negatively affect their health. In 2016, 623K legal abortions were reported.

Up to 30% of women will have one or more physical complications to an abortion.  Most are not life-threatening, though on in one-hundred may require immediate emergency care.

Just a few of the potential health risks of abortion include:

•    Complicated surgical abortions followed by incomplete abortions
•    Prolonged and heavy bleeding conditions
•    Serious infections and fever
•    Digestive problems and discomfort

Negative emotional reactions to abortion are more common than physical problems. These abortion risks include:

•    Sadness, shame, guilt
•    Anger, rage, and blame of others or self
•    Suicidal thoughts and behaviors
•    Substance abuse and dependency
•    Sleep disturbances and nightmares
•    Flashbacks
•    Jealousy or aversion to pregnant women or babies
•    Loss of pleasure with sex
•    Desire for a replacement pregnancy

Negative feelings after an abortion are difficult to overcome on one’s own. The best help may come from talking with a woman who has already worked through the healing process after her own abortion.  Many post-abortion healing programs are staffed by such women who are trained to help others through these risks of abortion.
